Lighting connection units, sockets and pre-wired plugs from Flex Connector’s flex 7 range have been used throughout all four levels of the new £28 million Aldershot Centre for Health (ACfH), which will be used by both civilian and military communities in Hampshire.

Covering almost 13,000 square metres, the Centre used over 3000 items from the flex 7 lighting connection range. With its size enabling it to provide economies of scales and an enhanced range of services, the Centre is an innovative example of one-stop health care facilities.

Briggs & Forrester, leading M&E contractor, chose Flex Connectors for the project because of their experience with the healthcare sector. Equally important was the fact that the design of flex 7 products enables them to be adapted for specific projects.

In this case, Flex Connectors were able to tailor their standard range connection units both to provide essential/non-essential connection for the power management required in a healthcare facility and to connect emergency luminaires for central testing and monitoring.

With 770 rooms, the ACfH is the UK’s largest primary healthcare centre. Carillion has completed the 12,866 sq.m building for developer The Wilky Group, who are leasing it to Hampshire PCT and the Army. It became fully operational at the end of August 2008, making it the first health centre able to offer sophisticated diagnostics that might make a hospital visit unnecessary.
