A range of flex7 lighting connection and control products were used in the recent renovation of the 6th floor of Stratton House, located on Stratton Street, Mayfair.
flex7 had already worked successfully with the contractor, GCL Building Technologies on the 3rd floor of the same building for the same client, so we were invited to quote for this project. The client required an efficient, cost-effective lighting control system without the maintenance an addressable system can require. The flex7 system is incredibly easy to install, versatile, and easy to maintain, and was a great fit for the project.
The open plan office required presence detection with daylight linking. All luminaires in this zone were networked together for occupancy, so that lights come on, and remain on whenever part of the space is occupied. Lights will automatically turn off again once an area has been vacant for a predetermined time. Sensor Heads also have daylight linking enabled, to ensure lights automatically dim down whenever there is adequate natural light, saving further energy whenever possible. The constant level that lights dim up or down to maintain can be set using a flex7 Setup Remote Control.
Scene set plates were installed in meeting rooms, which allow up to 4 lighting scenes to be programmed. Once programmed, a scene can be instantly recalled with the press of a button. They can then be modified while in use by dimming separate channels up or down if needed. In this case a black Scene Set Plate Module was chosen, with a satin steel decorative fascia.
In the lift lobby the client wanted presence detection, but rather than lights turning off when the area was absent, they wanted lights to dim down to a preset level. The client specified the dimmed light level they required, and we were able to provide a lighting control module that ensures lights default to last dimmed level whenever the area is vacated, rather than turning off completely.
Andy from GCL Building Technologies was happy to comment on the project:
“flex7 were very helpful throughout the whole process of the project. Initially taking the proposed lighting drawings and undertaking a lighting system design which also produces a useful detailed quote material matrix.
flex7 then came to our offices to discuss and tweak the design to meet the clients’ requirements. The project was undertaken in phases and the flex7 deliveries were labelled for each phase which made it very easy for the engineers on site and avoid any confusion.
Working to the flex7 system design the installation went smoothly and was completed swiftly. Mark from flex7 kept in touch and when alterations were requested by the client, he was always on hand to assist with any queries and provide advice.
Commissioning is very simple with flex7 and takes no time at all and if you do have any questions, they are always on hand to help out. Our client is really happy with their new lighting and the fact that they now have full control of it and can undertake changes if required rather than having to call out an expensive engineer on the old, closed protocol system that was installed.”
